If you’re planning on renting a St. George Island property for a vacation you will never forget, take a look at our Things to Do page. We know that planning a vacation can be challenging, so we put together some of our favorite things to do in the area to save you from hours of research. Here, you’ll find all the information you need from places to eat Apalachicola Bay oysters to family-friendly activities.

About Apalachicola Bay Oysters

Apalachicola Bay is located in the expanse of water between the Florida mainland and St. George Island. The surrounding islands, including SGI, keep the waters calm and perfect for their habitat. It takes each one about 3 years to reach 3 inches and be ready for harvest. In order to take care of the bay, it is the last place in the U.S. that requires the historic practice of using of tongs on small boats. Because it is such a popular spot for harvesting, any other practice could be harmful to the area.

What Restaurants Serve Apalachicola Bay Oysters?

Because this area produces about 90% of Florida’s oysters, you can find them at nearly any restaurant in the area. However, the closer you are to Apalachicola, the fresher they will be. Apalachicola Bay Oysters have a distinctive salty taste with a bit of sweetness. Here are some restaurants to try:

Lynn’s Quality Oysters

Lynn’s Quality Oysters sells some of the freshest seafood in the area, including Apalachicola Bay oysters. Located just a stone’s throw away in Eastpoint, FL, Lynn’s has been family owned and operated for the last 40 years! This spot sells fresh Apalachicola Bay oysters that they harvested themselves. You can purchase them there or visit their raw bar to indulge in some tasty oysters with gorgeous views of the bay.

Up the Creek Raw Bar

Up the Creek Raw Bar is a casual spot located in Apalachicola. Indulge in an appetizer of Apalachicola Bay oysters before trying the chef’s tasty menu. The outdoor area overlooks the water of the bay so you can sit back and relax as you enjoy the seafood!

The Owl Cafe

The Owl Cafe’s oysters are delivered daily from Apalachicola Bay. Here, the dishes range from fresh local seafood to delicious steaks. The dining room’s pristine white tablecloths and views of the bay give the restaurant an upscale feel while still keeping a casual atmosphere. The menu changes depending on what is in season, and there is always a daily special depending on which local ingredients are available. There’s always something for everyone here!
